Reading Lately

ately I've been trying to finish up this book I started reading upon recommendation called "The Wind Up Bird Chronicles" by Haruki Murakami. So far it's been kind of weird and I'm not exactly sure how everything ties in together. I'm about 50 pages shy of finishing and I refuse to give up (although I almost did!) I'm really hoping that it makes sense by the end but with only 50 pages left to go...it doesn't seem likely. I'm hoping to dive into the world of Jane Austen next and the Boyfriend has graciously bought me a beautiful set of all her novels. I've never really been one for Jane Austen (I tried once and just couldn't do it) but the Boyfriend's wonderful sister in law has recently read through all of them and speaks very highly of them. So I'm convinced. Now if only I can find time to actually finish this book....

Leisure Reading

've been reading Julia Child's My Life in France, an account of her time spent in Paris and Marseille where her adventures and career in cooking first began. So far I am very much loving this book! Julia has such a charming, innocent, and playful way with her words and her journey to become one of America's most beloved French chefs is admirable. Her diligence and ambition to learn everything about French cuisine as well as the language and lifestyle is very inspirational. Julia discovered her passion for cooking around her mid 30s and exercised much gusto and courage to reach the height of her skill. Reading this book has been so much fun and motivates me to delve into my own passions with much more umph! I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves cooking, france, and is looking for an easy and light read!

Good Reads

tarting a new book comes with such a feeling of excitement and hope and even an eagerness to find a spot where I can sit, undisturbed, and dive into my new book. My latest endeavor is a book entitled Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts. A friend recommended this book to me many years ago and it's only now that I've gotten around to it as it's about a 900+ page book. So, it's now or never! A good way to stay on top of your reading is to join a book club. I've been a part of (and started) a great many of these, but sometimes they don't always work out. In comes Goodreads.com, a site where you can list the books you've read, state your reviews, and list the book(s) you are currently reading or want to read. I really enjoy it. If you do join, add me as your friend and we can compare notes!
